Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 19th May 2018

Fish of the day has to go to Ashley...

No takers for the 0500 slot, which is something I expect to see change dramatically as soon as the green seas turn back to blue and the first sailing is all about surface lures for bass... 0930 BIF1 addicts Marky and Damien were aboard. Pretty tough going, but a few bass landed. Only smalls. I did briefly bump into the big shoal, but lost them very quickly. Encouraging though. And the may rot getting better each tide at this distance from the shore. I do feel it is all coming to an end soon. One day, it will simply be gone. It happens that quickly.

A wrasse on a HTO mighty minnow made Marky very happy...

2nd sailing Ashley was aboard for his second play. With him his dad Pete. Managed to get them both bass, and one was a cracker, for Ashley. Weighed in the net at 8lb. Minus 2lb for the wet net, around 6lb. He was a very happy lad. But generally it was a struggle. Again bumped into the big shoal, but it was mostly tight lipped.

Katerina's amazing first ever cast in the UK result...

3rd sailing I had reserved for my lovely friend Katerina. I love showing my friends what I do for a living. Katerina last fished when she was perhaps nine or ten years old, in her home town of Pardubice, in the Czech Republic, with her friends. So, I went through the motions of showing her how to cast, how to hold the rod etc. Her first cast, completely unaided, went out nicely. "ok" i said. "Lets fish this one out... Put your finger on the line, and feel for the pressure to suddenly slacken"... "Thats it. Did you see the slack. Now wind briskly for ten seconds... thats it... 1..2... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz". Another 5-6lb bass, proving once again the power of both beginners luck, and pheromones... We then enjoyed a beautiful sunset, if rather fishless, before heading back to Brighton town, in search of rum,,,

Marina resident Romanian rescue dog... Plenty more as a Romanian shelter is shutting down... Anyone?
