Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 12th October 2019

A single day of calm, in a midst of a whole lot of really not calm. Probably the worst time of the year to be spending on new engines, but it has been done, and this was the first time using her in anger. Well, I wasnt actually angry, you understand. That very rarely happens these days, but you get the gist.

There are two problems with spells of wind that last weeks. The first, is the bait shoals get smashed up. It takes a few days of settled weather for them to all find each other again. Which means the predators are also dispersed. Instead of hunting big balls of bait knowing predators will be around, it is more about chasing small pockets of bait, with smaller groups of attendant predators. The second problem, is with me. Having not been following the fish for weeks, its all a bit of a stab in the dark initially, until I get a feel for what the fish might be up to. Lots of running around. Great for running in new engines mind.

As for the actual fishing, it was terrible. For the above reasons. First sailing, a single schoolie. 2nd sailing, we did an hour of plaicing as well as shadding. Result. A single plaice. 3rd sailing, a single schoolie. Viz was questionable. Very poor. Not much more to say about that really.
