Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 10th October 2025

ree

Today the forecasters were again wrong. But this time to our advantage. Instead of a fairly brisk Northerly wind gusting to 13mph, we had, calm. And such a difference it made to being able to fish properly. Drift with the tide. Perfect. Then add in some very good sized fish around today, and a grey sky, and it is not a surprise the excellent lure fishing for bass and squid continues.

First sailing, Fred, Jon, Peter and Paul were along for the trip. Action was slow to begin with, as we hunted around while really awaiting some flood tide. It soon came, and again I was able to quickly find the fish on the sonar, and we got to work on them. Numbers were a little down, in part to quite a lot of boat traffic going across the mark. At spots like the inner manors, which is where the marina is built upon, the fish there are very used to it and do not flatten down. But out on the spots less travelled, one thoughtless vessel smashing across the spot instead of making a wide D shape on their track lines, is enough to ruin it for everyone,

Despite the business (I think the great forecast saw an unprecedented amount of vessels out for a work day) my guys did good. No less than 22 bass landed, with some crackers among them. Plus a lovely old lady to myself at a tad over 71 cm. Which bode well for the following sailing which was three hours of pure flood tide.

And so it transpired. David, David, Steve and Steve (I know right... as if it isnt hard enough) were up for some really good bass fishing. A grand total of 35 landed, and again, some really good fish among them. I was very happy for it as both Steves and one of the Davids had suffered gruellers with me this summer past. And with such good bass fishing, it almost seemed a shame that the 3rd and final sailing of the day, was to be squid fishing.

Returning for more of that, from that there London town, Sam this time bought his lovely lady Ella along for the ink extravaganza. Joining them, Ian and Thang, also returning. And and ink extravaganza was an accurate description. 54 of these rapidly growing beasts fell, and we all got a bit inked. Lots of fun, for everyone.
