Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 13th July 2024

First sailing, and my pleasure to welcome back, after an absence of just five years, Cameron, Andrew and Tayler (Yes, with an E), and from yesterday, Lee. A very cold start, with 12 degrees air temperature assassinated by a brisk Northerly wind. I was in muff and wooly hat. Andrew, shorts... Despite what the calendar say's guys, it is better to come dressed for March. That Northerly did make for a chilly breeze though.

We found fish pretty much everywhere we went, which gave me the option of moving around to find older and bigger fish, as this sailing we were looking for the max kill. We found them on about the 5th move, and we achieved max kill soon after. Plenty more table fish returned as well. A really lovely session enjoyed by all. Indeed, so much so, that Cameron, Andrew and Tayler (with an E) have all promised to come back sooner than five years time! Result

Next up, Kate and Ryan returning from last year, and regulars Deyan and Shadi. Could not have had a more different session. I did warn the first hour may be slow awaiting the new flood, and when it came, it did bring lots of fish. And yet... They simply were not biting. Deyan, perhaps suspecting where this was going, worked a small jig for a few scad and mackerel. To top it all, the wind was increasing, adding a little bounce to the mix. Just one tidy one, to my rod, on the 3rd move.

With this in mind, and the fish not playing, I suggested we head for different fish. Those hunting crabs in the shallow rock. This would also bring us closer to the marina, if the sea state should deteriorate. This was a good move as both scenarios did come to play. Kate got a cracking fish, and the wind increased to the point the sea state was lots of white horses and rolling troughs, which make for zero lure control. I called it a two hour session, and we headed back in. A similar scenario tomorrow, where just the first sailing will roll. And it will launch smoothly, thanks to Lee, who returned to assist in some dock maintenance.
