Brighton Inshore Fishing - catch report 14th June 2026

last year, the spider crabs did not venture inshore locally in any numbers at all. This affected the fishing in close greatly, and overall, both the shore fishing and the fishing in tight was quite poor until later in the year. This year... we got crabs.

First sailing at the midsummer time of 0500 thanks to unseasonal winds the past fortnight. With me, all returnees, Max, Dean. Sam and Jake. And all nicely finger trained, which is why 13 fish were bought to the boat. Mostly of keeper size, although only 6 fish were required for various BBQ plans. But nice to find so many better fish after recent hard times. A direct result of the spider crab invasion.

Next sailing, JJ and his trainee doctor son Seth, who came for his first BIF1 experience, plus regulars Jeffrey and Nico. Started well, with the last of the floor tide, but then a change in wind direction to the south west and top of the tide combined to make it suddenly scratchy.

We did eventually get some good ebb, although with the wind increasing way beyond what had been forecast it was getting bouncy and judging what the lure was up to was hard work. We ended up with 11 landed. 4 killed. And 4 happy anglers. Unlike the 4 for the 1300 sailing, that I had informed would not be happening 30 minutes before the end of the last session. very frustrating for all.
