Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 16th May 2025

The shoals of small sandeel have reached epidemic proportions, which in turn has bought a lot of attention from predators. Todays session was dominated with sub 40cm bass, and lots of very fat mackerel. with me regulars Brian and Sam, and new to BIF1, and to fishing, Tom and student Weiyi. Tom was a friend of Sam's, and came to see what bass fishing was all about, and Weiyi, studying in town, just decided she wanted to know about fishing.

A great day to be a beginner as hits and fish hooked were really a given regardless of where your shad was in the water column. And so it turned out. Everyone caught well with 42 bass landed, but just two over the magical 42cm mark. Foodies were happy though, as we killed 18 fat mackerel, which taste superior anyhow when fresh.
