A last minute trip, as I was originally not going to sail, to assist with my dock repairs. However, on seeing the cost of lifting it out, I felt I had to soften the blow. And with the squid and bass fishing the best it has been all year this week, it was no problem to fill the spots. It all hinged on wether or not winds would allow us to reach the whiting holes. It doesnt take much of a swell to make the technique difficult, especially with winds pushing us across the tide. With me for the experience, Michael and John, Bledi and Martin.

Leaving the mouth of the marina it was promising. No sign of roll that an easterly can sometimes create. But winds were more NE, and straight off the beach. Heading out, some roll, but not too much. No whitecaps. They are the clue. I set up for the drift. It was a great drift. After two drifts, we had 8 fish landed, 6 killed. And then the wind increased, and the swell I dont like came. Much like the previous day, except it didnt reach screaming as it did yesterday. Time to head closer. Here, Bledi and Martin smashed a shedload of squid, but the bassing was harder. Just four more smalls added to the tally. A real shame. If the wind had let us remain out there, it would have been a big tally.
