Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 1st July 2024

A lay in. 30 minutes added to the alarm time, as we now head towards winter, shedding daylight minutes all along the way. Not that it mattered. I tend to wake with the first crack of light, around 0330 anyhow. Just seems to happen. Hence I am more energetic in the winter. Better rested. Just the one sailing as well due to winds increasing, and remaining increased for the foreseeable future according to the current forecast. With me, Mark, his lad Ethan. friend Catalin, and birthday boy Lee.

A shame as fishing is getting more reliable all the time. A spot I have been waiting patiently to come alive has finally come alive. Hatching bream I suspect responsible for the bass presence. And now the mackerel have arrived, competition for the bass, which seem to be hitting a little harder suddenly.

The only down side was an annoying NW wind, which created a rolling swell and made for extremely difficult lure control. In calmer conditions, with less roll, I think we would have detected and converted a lot more bites. Considering the conditions, the final tally of 14 bass landed, with three for the table, was quite good. Double figures of prime eating mackerel also accompanying the guys.
