Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 28th September 2026

Another great example of late summer fishing. With ever growing numbers of squid around, plus baitfish, plus a velvet peeler moult, there is every reason for bass to be inshore. First up, 4 rods, and all surface action. Maximum kill. Plenty of quality fish also released for the total of 23 landed. No time for messing around with squid on this session.

With heavy cloud cover I really expected to just carry on. But on arriving at the mark after a quick breakfast, it sadly had 2 seals now laying claim to it. Fish marking, but not taking. Certainly not off the top, where they would be vulnerable. Off for a scout around. Took until the final 45 minutes before I finally found some in deeper water. 8 fish landed, of which six were killed. Quality fish as well after a summer of excellent feeding.

Forecast was suggesting some much stiffer winds arriving around five. It left me an hour after doing some admin, to go get some squid for bait to fish said winds. An hour gave me 30 squid, but already, many are a little over size for what I like as a bass bait. And although the wind came, it vanished also, and now, a proposed shore job in the morning may well turn into a sail...
