Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 31st December 2025

Wow... Another year gone... How does it happen so fast... Was it a good year. It didn't feel like one, but browsing back through the diary entries it clearly wasn't terrible either. Anyhow, I wont be doing a "review of the year" thing. Help yourself to review the last eight years (although you have to play a game of guess the page as WIX blog only displays 4 years in the GUI. But change the date parameters in the browser window and hunt down older entries that way. They go back to May 2017 when BIF1 came to be.

As for the catch reports a bit of a speed thing as I have company and dont wish to be rude. First sailing today, with Matt, Jude, Mark and Luca, and it was very cold indeed. I tried a couple of spots before heading to where I last had some action. And again there was some action to be had. I think we managed 4 bass, with 3 being sizeable, but we killed just the one as two were especially gravid. One though, was clearly spawned out, thin with abrasions from thrashing in the act of shagging. It sort of confirms that the shagging began beginning of November this year. And already thin, hungry fish are returning inshore to feed up. As well as bass, Jude nabbed a thornback, and I snagged a plump little codling, both returned

Next up, and it was Sam, George, Luke and Ric out with me. I expected this sailing to be the hardest of the two, but actually, we managed to winkle out 6 in total. Just two out of three keepers killed from this tally. A whiting was the only bycatch.

If i wasnt in Portugal in February, I would actively target them, as we get some good sized ones on certain patches then. But... hey ho. I am off to Portugal on Monday, and I suspect the wind will prevent any sailings before then. So, likely my last until March 2026 today.

I will take this opportunity to wish all my clients a very happy new year, and lets see what this coming year brings us in the form of bass food. Everything crossed for a big spider crab invasion in 2026.
