Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 8th August 2026

First sailing was one of the better ones for a while. Heading out on top of the tide, with all the ebb ahead, I opted for some deeper water, as there is a profusion of soft brown weed all through the column in shallower spots. Four rods on board, 12 bass landed, five killed, and one too big to die, at 7.5lb for Ian. Lots of mackerel around as well for top ups

2nd sailing, we popped out into a stiff SE breeze, circled and came back in. With the forecast for the wind to drop at 1400, we rescheduled for a sunset session, commencing at 1730. I popped home for a nap. And then, out on the 1400, with four rods. Fishing was again fairly good compared with recent trips , 11 landed, four killed (only 4 required, other sizeables released) plus mackerel again.

This left me confident for lapsed regular Al, and his companions Leon and young Jamie. Jamie visiting from the emerald Isle. He was a from scratch job. I got him as far as I could without annoying him, and then Leon subtly ironed out the bumps, and before he left not only was he casting well, but he was also top rod, with the only bass (a keeper) and some mackerel on a very tough session. A happy lad returning to the republic.
