Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 9th August 2026

Mixed fortunes today...

that's what happens when tuna come inshore...

We started well. four rods, all regulars. 14 bass landed, six killed. mackerel a plenty. Football pitch sized shoals of Brit at times. And then... a breach on the horizon. "probably dolphins..." I said

Then, a shoal of horse mackerel porpoising along the top. "likely dolphins" I explained

But when the same happened an hour later, which coincided with the fishing being much harder, and with garfish this time, the thought occured. Tuna. Confirmed by a sighting of a 100kg fish on the same ground by Kj, skipper of Sea Breeze III

Next sailing, a struggle. At home with tea now, I do think the appearance of the tuna affected the bass. we have seen this before.

just five bass landed. one killed

a single mackerel. And an un-forecast 15mph SE wind which kicked up an angry sea, and cessation of sailings for the day.
