Brighton Inshore Fishing - Squid report 19th September 2025

ree

First and second sailing fell foul to the same issue we have endured these past.. erm... Well, almost a month. Wind. I finally got myself into gear and with my shore clients we have had some good surf sessions out in the surf. But today, was originally looking good for all 3 sailings. A last minute deterioration in the forecast meant I sacked off the first two sailings, but the squid trip, at 1500, was still viable. According to the forecast.

The truth was different. Still pretty bouncy, and instead of decreasing, the wind actually steadily increased for the last hour, making it very bouncy for Loz, James, Helder and Asim. And for the first hour, although very pleasant and warm, not a sniff of a squid. But as the sun lowered a little, that changed, and we were happily finding them. From small to medium. Kind of perfect for bait or food as all are this years new generation, the old tough ones now out on the wrecks awaiting death.

I wasnt sure if we were going to take an early bath as the wind and sea both increased significantly for the last 30 minutes. Additionally, not a single squid, as we were being pushed by the wind and the tide, meaning we were drifting at over 1.5 knots. Not conducive to good fishing inshore. As was shown.

So, in the end, happy at the 14 squid landed. Plus a random mackerel. And nice to be a charter skipper again, if only for 3 hours. However... Heads up... Wind is AGAIN forecast to swing to the North Sunday.

ree

A day to push out the weed and rain water, and we should have some first class bassing in close, as there are signs of a good velvet peel. And those Northerly winds last all week... Availability on the home page.
