A day that went rather well really. Winds were a bit of a pain as they went easterly on the ebb for a while, creating a bit of deep long swell. But it was worth enduring as both squid fishing and bass fishing continue to be excellent. A real boost for all boats as the fishing has been hard all summer, both afloat and, compared for example to last year, on the shore. Especially the squid which are in numbers on pretty much any bit of scrubby ground. And just like last year, they are beginning to come in shallower and shallower even in daylight. A boost for shore squidders also, especially as repair work on the Marina West arm is now complete, and the anglers are allowed 24/7 access once more. Great squid ground all along it and hopefully no lights allowed will be enforced as they are entirely unnecessary for good bags of squid.

First sailing, and with me David, John and Paul, and Paul bought me a fishing virgin Dan. I like getting hold of fishing virgins on BIF1. It means I can teach them exactly the way I want them to fish, and I loved how quickly Dean was putting in BIG casts. But casting is only part of the fun. Working out the subtlety of different takes is another big learning curve. He had it well before the end. Dave upped the BIF1 cod count, with a cute little coddie. But star of the show, with a 68cm PB, (released) was Dave. He made cover girl and he really enjoyed the session. 10 bass landed, five killed and the big one released.

Next up, Nico, Brian, Patrick, and the return of Marky Mark, eager to get back to Zen with his shad after a two month lay off. A really fun crew and fish all round. Fifteen was the final score. I think again five killed. Some really quality fishing.

And the final 3rd sailing until 5th March 2026, it was my pleasure to welcome back Gabs, and some of my Portuguese regulars, Augustus, Pritesh, and my new but for sure regular Duarte. We began with bassing, and some good fish landed quite quickly. But it wasnt on fire. The squid however, were menacing the shads terribly. I suggested that they guys get on the squid while they were having it, and squid started pouring over the gunnels. I stayed on the bass, taking the total to nine for the session, with again some really good quality fish. Loving it at the moment. One trip in the morning, due to life stuff (Boiler replacement and horse stuff) in the afternoon. But Tuesday and Wednesday both looking doable with a few spaces still on both days. Message 07970 112774 if you would like to get in on it. A big of a storm on the weekend could move the fish along.
