Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 25th November 2025

ree

A very tough one to call today. Winds were forecast at 20 gusting 30 Northerly, but after a week of watching winds way under the forecast, I took the gamble to call the trip on. At least with a Northerly staying in tight means calm seas regardless of wind strength. And I had to get it right. One guy, Chris, had travelled down from Aylesbury to join more local Stewart, Tom and his dad Jerry, for the session. However one thing I havent had to factor in all year, which suddenly reminded me it is a factor, was the amount of rain we received over the weekend. Normally I would have noticed, but I have had an unusual and rather boring weekend being inside. And now, exiting the marina, I noticed that the silt cannons have been hard at work. Thick colour extended the first mile. We needed to be past that to have any chance of success. But here another issue. The wind was not the Northerly, forecast. More a NW. And we were teetering on the edge of the lee created by Worthing. Bigger swells and whitecaps were just a stones throw away. Yet... we could fish, and we caught fish.

Not loads, but of the seven fish landed, 5 were over the 42cm. Just. But just is good enough on a hard day on perch tackle, at the end of November in a yucky sea. Not good enough to stay for a second session though, as squid were wanted. And squid were not interested to be in the floodwaters. The first session the shads have been unmolested since early September. It is also very nearly the end of the squid season. Will they return if the flood waters do not get topped up? Time will tell. So, with the afternoon session cancelled, I will be re-pointing my garden wall, as a practice for doing my whole bungalow. I would rather be fishing, but I will only sail if my clients wishes are viable. And squid REALLY hate fresh water.
