Initially, after popping out this morning into zero wind, but a 2 meter swell, turning around and cancelling all the mornings sailings, I thought I would not be out with BIF1 today. But then the swell appeared to be dropping out, so I called one of the cancelled guys, Ian, whom I knew to be busting to get out ahead of a family holiday. "We will have one spot, in the lee of the marina. Want to try?" "See you there" he said.
Three hours of being thrown about. Three hours of experiencing what an awesome craft BIF1 is. Going back up each drift, smashing into the swell and waves, was quite an experience. But at no time did BIF1 seem anything other than mistress of her realm.
The fishing was something else. At times, I could hardly believe how much bait was down there. But if there were bass among them, they didnt want to open their mouths. Just one around 3lb, and one other bang.. With the conditions, there wasnt really anywhere else to try, so we continued over the same reef until it was time to return.
