Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 4th January 2019

Out with Stan and Gary for just the single sailing. Strangely, both guys have been trying to get out on BIF1 for a while, but either weather or work prevented it. And then both for their first time, at possibly the worst time of the year... Funny old world. I was hoping for a repeat of yesterday, but as I explained, although the routines remain pretty much the same, the results depend on what stock swims on that tide.

It started similar, with plenty of whiting, and school bass on the frolics. But the jump to the bigger bass spot, produced nothing, other than a cracking wrasse for Stan. Onwards, bouncing a lot of sterile rock along the way. The jumbo pouting were obliging, and single mackerel. But the biggest difference today, was the absolute lack of herring. There were some huge clouds of bait moving through, but whatever it was, I believe to be tiny, as even with size 16 sabikis I couldnt hook one. And the herrings, they were nowhere to be seen. Instead the huge shoals of bait fish were being tracked by whiting and school bass, which were very prolific at times.

The last hour, we came back to the spot where we had all those herring yesterday. But not a single one today. If the huge shoals were herring, they were keeping their mouths tightly shut...

Two soaces available tomorrow morning 0745... 3 spaces on 1145, Sunday morning sold out but 3 spaces available Sunday 1145, and then that looks like the wind returning to ruin things for another week or so... 07970 112774 to get on board...
