Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 20th October 2019

Another break due to the weather. Although the return to the fishing was not nearly so poor, although still not great. First sailing, we found six bass, and a bonus squid. Two of the bass small, four legal, although only two went into the fish well. Even though it is quite legal to take a fish per day (for another 11 days only) not all of my clients choose to do so.

2nd sailing, and the water was clearing nicely. Fishing was less good, with just four bass landed. But critically, two of those were to my lovely client Daohong's father, visiting all the way from China. Daohong also had one, around 3lb, as did I. Slow. Slow enough to propose something radical for last sailing... With the stiff NE wind forecast to increase late afternoon, I proposed we try it from the shingle.

This might sound crazy to many, but at this time of the year, it only takes one good shoal of anchovy or sprat to run close to the shingle, and the fishing can be amazing. This wasn't that day however, with just a single schoolie landed... And to rub salt deep into the wound, the wind decreased instead of increasing. We really should have sailed...
