Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 12th May 2026

One of the many advantages of having an insomniac character inside this aged structure, is that I sail very early at this time of year. And on days such as this one, it pays off by being able to just squeeze in a sailing before a stiff SW wind arrives to take away the rest of the day. And happily, insomnia is a common disease in East Sussex, as joining me were father and son Nick and Jake, plus Dean and Ted, all returnee's. Thanks to the birds bringing us tight to the edges we quickly put 8 small bass back into the sea, but then the search for quality fish faltered. Along the way though, some interesting by-catch, a pretty wrasse, but also a nice reef pollack for Jake. Perhaps the no take currently in force (remember rod and line anglers have a 3 pollack per day limit from 1st June) is finally paying dividends, with clouds of very small pollack in the marina once more being further potential evidence of recovery. As always, time will tell.
