On the forecast, it looked as though todays proposed 1500 sailing was without any issues. Sure, the mornings wind was a bit jumpy around and quite strong. But I watched as my weather cock swung to the North around 1100. I called my guys to say the trip was on. So, when I left the calm of the marina entrance to be smashed by a big easterly roll, I wasnt happy. No danger, but not for shad fishing on lure rods. I did a big loop and returned to the berth. As I did so, i gauged who may be up for a shore session. Bob, Simon and Misha all were. Armando had things he would prefer to be doing. I get it. He signed up for a boat trip. Regardless of how good shore trips can be.

The thing was, it wasnt just a random suggestion. Visibility was great for bass, with just a hint of stain from overnight rains and early strong flood currents. And the early flood is the time when the baitfish get forced tight into the structure by insurmountable currents for their tiny fins. The bass know this, and take advantage. And I know this, and take my clients to take advantage.

It isnt without its issues. With the big swell causing issues working out when touchdown was happening, lure losses were high. But, who cares when fish are having it. Biggest to myself at 65cm and a very fat fish, my best on a lure from the shore this year so far I think as lure fishing ashore has been very hard. But everyone caught. Everyone was happy. I do still think of Brighton Marina as in the top five lure marks in all of Sussex. As with the other 4 marks, tide and conditions have to be right. But when they are, the results can be excellent.
