August already. First sailings now at 0600, 2nd at 1030, 3rd at 1430. However, today, in an effort to beat the wind, there was just one sailing, at 1700. With me Miles, regular, and new to BIF1 Henry and Xin. The wind however, remained problematic. A good direction if staying in tight, from the NW, but still so strong staying in touch with the shad was hard until the last 30 minutes.

As such, the guys did really well to get the fish they did. Two killed for the table, and three schoolies also. Not too shabby for hard conditions. Plus mackerel back up. Although generally, still pretty lean pickings. I think the inshore just needs a dose of mature bait fish of any description to pick up. And chatting to commercial friends, there is a stack of sprat offshore. Without the spider crabs to tempt those fish into the rocks, my suspicion is the bulk of the bass are holding out there with them. But it will migrate inshore soon. Just a matter of time. I am also hopeful rising squid and whiting numbers will also bring more in tight.
