Brighton Inshore Fishing - catch report 24th May 2026

kind of similar to yesterday's first session. but with zero table fish. less gulls around meant less Brit and sandeel, but we quite quickly found (by hearing) a particularly raucous flock. Fish showing on the surface but I declined requests for surface lures due to said gulls. With me Cameron, Charlie and Ian. lots of fun, but after 35 smalls

we went prospecting for something bigger. a cuttlefish went home with Cameron, plus two mackerel made the total BBQ content of first sailing.

2nd sailing, it was my pleasure to welcome back Glen and Wrigy, returnees, plus new to BIF1 their friends Ian and Ollie. Managing expectations, I explained how the bright sun and clear seas were likely to ruin everything. I decided to visit all the spots I didn't yesterday to avoid the same end result. This worked a treat as in the final hour we finally located some fish, with some quality in among it. 11 fish landed, 4 killed. one too big to kill!! After yesterday's poor 2nd sailing, this was one to celebrate.

3rd sailing started with a delay due to traffic. Brighton is an absolute nightmare at the moment with many events happening as we come towards the end of the fringe festival, and many new road working budgets meaning a frenzy of new cycle lanes to be underused. Please do factor in plenty of travel time, especially on hot bank holiday weekends. But once Jack, Adam, Charlie and George arrived, we cracked straight on. I was expecting a complete failure due to the bright sun, but the new flood tide was an advantage, and 6 fish were landed. Doesnt sound much but with 2 table fish in that figure, way better than the same sailing yesterday. And more observations which led to the fourth and final sailing being the best of the day.

Joining me for the sunset session, Timothy and Ed, returning, and Mitchel and Kye, joining me all the way from sunny Essex. We were straight onto the fish, but the fish did not want to know really, until the ebb passed 0.5 knots of drift, and then it switched on nicely. Rare to not see a fish either on the surface or on the sounder. 52 landed. I think that makes about 104 bass on the day. Maximum kill and plenty of table fish released. Plus balmy seas and a wonderful sunset. Doesnt really get much better than that.
