Finally a day where we could go fish all the places we wanted to. So we did. First up, Mikhail, John, Gavin and Ian. This was going well until a white piece of plastic with the name VIKTOR down the side of it not only cut in front of us on the drift but actually stopped right on top of the fish we were casting to. What has happened to angling etiquette? I wouldnt dream of acting as these other boaters do. Zero regard for the fact that they are attempting to trick a totally wild animal just 40 feet below them. They think they are feeding pigeons in the park I guess. And pitching up in front of my drift will not mean you are going to catch those fish, as you also need to know what you are doing. And the first thing you dont do is scare the fish away. Which is, of course, exactly what happened.

Worse, we then struggled to locate them again. Final tally, 12 fish landed. Maximum kill. And an oversize release, with the cover girl picture being Mikhail with his 68.5cm bass. Lots of rumours VIKTOR is a pirate charter vessel. If it is, the customers are being robbed more than the authorities.

For the midday sailing, Mikhail remained, and was joined by Andy, David (new to BIF1) and Nick. And now we had something unexpected in our favour. With the inshore being quite heavy with rainwater from last weekend, the squid were in very low numbers compared with before the rain. This meant a lot of boats had been to the holes, but not catching, headed off to do other things. And as a result, the bass had reformed and we were able to start off well. Right up until the tide eased back, including an impressive 66cm oversize release for Nick.

Some running around saw us reach max kill, and we returned just as the forecast SW breeze began to blow, with 22 bass landed. 34 bass to four rods in six hours with 16 killed for the table... Not tragic. What is tragic is winds shutting me down again. Sunday may go. Time will tell...
