Another day of sailing, and already, much more of a clue where to start, which of course reflected in the results. With me this morning, Max, Mark, Tim and Jake, all regulars. And all keen, and well trained which meant my time was easy. Fish were where I expected them, although it took an hour into the session before they really got going, at the peak of the tide. Great fishing, with Jake nailing a PB. Max kill and plenty more tables released. Squid were being a bit of a pain, a theme that continued for all sailing time today, which when you are bassing is a bit of a pain. Final tally was 42 fish landed.
Breakfast at Zio's, a daily routine regardless of sailing to be fair. Finally taking my diet seriously for the first time in my life, I find myself eating cold fish on avocado most mornings. Sounds grim, but check out the posh sardines yourself and tell me what you think. Then, back to the fishing. This time, Mark was remaining with me, and was joined by Peter, and new to BIF1, all the way from Birmingham, Behar and Gramos.
Again the difficult time. Indeed, due to the clocks retreating by 1 hour , the tide states fairly mirrored the previous day. last of the ebb. And a taste of the new flood. A bit more prepared this time, and this again showed in the results. With some interesting by-catch once again. A small John dory to my own rod, And also to my own rod, but no photo due to it going arial and throwing the hook, was a blue fin tuna. Sorry, I spelt that wrong. A shad. Allis or twaite, I guess we will never know.
As for the bass, less, smaller, but still enough to make it a succesful session. And over the slack water, the guys launched jigs to devastating effect on the squid. Lots of fun, and lots of ink. Which of course has to be expected when squid are around. It is not too long though, before we will have squid no more. Last year the full moon in December saw the last that I know of. If you did not get on them yet, make it happen soon. They are kind of fun, but the best bit is the eating.
Final tally was 19 bass landed, with maximum kill. But perhaps more importantly, Behar and Gramos had new tricks to take back to Birmingham with them. Which would be useless but for the fact they own a small boat based in North Wales, where now I expect to hear good things about their ventures. A good day. Now a couple of days off by the looks due to wind, and then perhaps another few days sailing. As always, time will tell.
