Again just the one sailing. Could have done the 2nd but strangely nobody booked for any other sailings. Worrying in the Summer holidays. But Brighton feels a bit empty considering it is August soon I guess folk are abroad with their families. With me today, Steve, Jude, Daniel and James. James the only BIF1 virgin.
Lots of small fish tight to the shingle. I let the guys play for 30 minutes before heading off hunting bigger fish. A hunt that really went to the wire before we found the only table bass of the day. 11 others were also caught, but sizes were down and shoals small and hard to find, other than the smalls in Brighton bay. Chunky mackerel were shad hungry though, so everyone got a feed of super fresh fish.

The only other noticeable action was Steve trying to get rid of his red rod. Perhaps fed up after years of me giving him stick, he suddenly decided to throw it into the sea, complete with a very heavy (all metal parts) posh Penn Slammer. It sunk really fast. What had actually happened, was the bail arm was closed, and a fast rod stroke to cast generated enough energy it literally ripped from Steve's hand. I had a few flicks, but the rod was gone.
But while on the next spot, it bothered me. We shouldnt just give up on 1k of tackle so easily. "When the session ends, I got an extra drift" I explained to the guys. And when the session ended. I got on the north side of the spot where the rod had entered, knowing the still stiff N wind would take us out square, and asked everyone to cast. Again it was top rod Daniel who came good. Careful pumping, and soon the Tenyru tip was close enough to grab. One lucky Steve...
