Finally back at sea once more. I do get a little stir crazy that now the best of the bass fishing has arrived, Neptune used wind weapons to protect them. But we got to have a little survey today. Not that it was anything close to calm. Fairly windless, but Nilesh, Andy, Ed and Ian all quickly discovered how fun BIF1 is to ride on a swell of 0.8 meters.

Out on the whiting holes, the session began beautifully to plan. The first 8 fish landed were killed, which gives you an idea of the quality. But one problem with the bass at the moment, is they are feeding on whiting, and the whiting are living in the places that squid live. So as we fished, more and more boats arrived to fish the squid, and the bass were having none of it and promptly vanished. No biggie, as my guys also wanted squid, so off they went with plenty down there. Final tally was 12 bass landed, and squids all around.

On the 1200 sailing I was joined by friends Nico, Paul and Martin, plus one of my local regulars Kevin. Now we headed out into a breeze from the South West. And gusting at times. The swell had become a little more confused, the seas a little sloppier. At all times during this session I was thinking ... five more minutes and I will head in. Not for safety, but for how tough to work the techniques. And yet, we ended up seeing it to the end. The bassing started very hard, and with this weird sea happening I encouraged early squidding to ensure the guys had at least a good feed to take back to London town. Kevin added a cuttle to a reasonable haul of Squid.
But the guys wanted back on the bass, and so began the hunt to find the shoal. We failed, but I did find a different shoal for the last thirty minutes. Just two killed from 20 landed, but a lot of fun and a great way to finish a day that was, to summarise, bouncy. And now it looks like another week of no sailings. Just a glimpse we were allowed. And its looking pretty good. A quiet midweek early sailing, and I feel it could be special
