Just the one sailing this morning. with winds increasing as I type this, at 11:15. With em regulars Tim, his very big lad Jake, Max and Lee. Tides getting a little bigger now, and with all flood I was hopeful of some action. The morning screamed surface lures, and with bass very happy (possibly hiding) in shallower water that is how we fished the first hour and a half. Six bass landed in that time, three for the fish box. Then, a bit of a struggle. Squid, no problem. Large mackerel no problem, but bass went into hiding. Despite some determined hunting. that was it.
A lovely morning to be out though, and a hell of a lot of craft out. Good to see the entire marina fleet out there making dollar. Been a much tougher year for everyone, and I do firmly believe this is the new norm with the jet stream mostly residing to the south of the UK these last couple of years. As such, it is time to get you guys used to what I need to do to counter the impact, and keep the service available. After 8 years at £60 per sailing, from 1st April 2025, your sessions will be £80. Think about how much more you pay for a bottle of olive oil compared to eight years ago, and you will see this is still a well below inflation rise over that period. I remain results driven, not money driven, but the amount of cancelled sailings do need to be subsidised, and yard costs, insurances and berthing have all jumped massively in that time. It is twice as expensive to have my boat lifted in the marina as it was when I started, with over £400 required to lift it and put it on blocks. .The rise will either work, or it will not. If not, that will simply activate other plans to fulfilment. Always with fish. And people. And dogs. And pretty women. The only four pleasures I need to remain content.
