Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 17th October 2025

A day where, had the forecast held, we would again be talking about a fifty plus fish session. However, the forecast that was for light winds increasing later in the day had it back to front. We smashed out to the whiting holes to assess the situation. But sadly, although perfectly safe, the actual fishing would have been more guesswork than technique.

The window for failure was far to wide, and so I returned closer inshore, where swells were far smaller, and fishing could happen with skills rather than chance making the results happen. A real shame though, as all the signs were there that some good bass were on the ground. Or at least, the whiting were home...

In closer all was still good. Stacks of squid, and with the West arm re-opening (again, tonight) I would imagine the west arm will be perfect for them tonight with the wind having a lot of East in it. With me, Jude, James, Sam, and after a bit of a break Ian returned to me... But no Batman...? A story there...

A total of 12 bass landed, plus top up squid for Jude who just wanted a few. Its pretty much like a supermarket out there at the moment. A true time of plenty. And of those 12 bass, we killed 9. No monsters, but with prices on the slab of wild line caught bass touching £75 per kilo for the whole fish in the posher parts of London, still a great return.

That wonderful man from Tetradock came yesterday morning, and the dock was fixed and good as new. No more leaning over, thank goodness. It was becoming embarrassing. I cant recommend these floating pontoons enough for reducing weed growth and promoting peace of mind. If your vessel is on one of these docks and your auto bilge pump fails in a week of unprecedented rain, you still will not be sunk. Find out more HERE
