Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 21st March 2026

Just two sailings today. First up, I was joined by Nick, Andy and Dave. All regulars and well trained. The combination of a big tide and a pretty stiff NE wind meant it was quite bouncy out where I wanted to start. It began well, with a few fish landed on the last trickle of ebb. Then the tide turned, and the flood got a little bouncier still. This made for pretty difficult lure control.

A move slightly inshore to a spot that I tell anyone fishing it with me in March, where back in March 2018, we took 21 cod in two trips. "I would love to catch a cod" said partly Irish Andy... There is something about that Irish twang that even charms fish. He nailed a cod first pass, and bass of the day on the second drift. Final tally just five bass, and the coddie.

2nd sailing, I had just Neville (finally!) aboard. Happily the wind dropped out significantly, and even the warmth finally showed itself. It did suddenly feel quite summery. But the fishing remained pretty hard. We both caught small bass in very close, which was another box ticked. It really feels like these current spring tides are bringing more and more fish with them. However, at the recently reliable spot, nothing was happening. A drift across the mornings coddie spot though, produced a very surprising Red Mullet, and table sized at that. Only the 2nd that has passed across BIF1's gunnels, in nine years.
