Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 29th June 2025

The heat wave arrived rather late today. This left Dave, Nat, Lee, Miles and myself with distinctly cold hands for much of the morning, with a stiffer than forecast NW wind ensuring any heat generated was quickly whipped away. No sunshine either until much later in the morning. To compensate though, Neptune allowed for the best fishing of the day. Eighteen bass landed, but just three killed for the table. Very much a case of the curse of the small stuff at the moment.

Second sailing was much harder. Jordan, Paul and Ian, all new to BIF1, plus John, returning along for the ride. Brighter cloud, perhaps the problem. Or perhaps simply the sheer volume of personal watercraft out there today. On paper it was perfect. Nice strong flood, wind with it. In practice, just four bass landed, with one killed. John did briefly have a very good fish connected, but sadly, somehow, the line parted without good reason as the fish made a fast run. Very disappointing.

Final sailing, Anustus returned to me, bringing along his partner and their two delightful daughters. Now the sun was in full flow, boats were everywhere, and although we were only looking for fun food fish, plaice, mackerel etc, it remained hard. Just two plaice and four mackerel went for the journey back to London town. Not that it mattered. The two girls I think enjoyed 25 knots across other boat wakes as much as they did the fishing.

FOOTNOTE - I did of course offer buoyancy aids for the 2 girls, but with reassurance regarding their floating abilities, and concerns about heat, they were to hand, but unworn.
